Is this legal?
Solar Split is a calculator and a record of readings. It shows a fair split. It does not sell electricity, send bills or hold money, and the meters it reads are for information only.
If you charge another household for electricity, state rules can apply, and they differ across Australia. Get advice for your situation. We are having the positioning reviewed by an energy lawyer.
Who owns the data?
You do. Readings belong to the household that produced them. Everyone on the connection can see the site totals. Each home sees its own use.
Which states does it work in?
The calculation works anywhere in Australia, because you enter your own tariff. We are starting with homes on the National Electricity Market. Victoria and Western Australia have their own rules, and we are still checking them.
What if my brand is not listed?
Check the equipment page and tell us what you have. We add brands in the order people ask for them.
Does it control my battery or inverter?
No. The hub only reads. It cannot switch anything on or off.
Do I need a meter?
Yes, on at least one dwelling. Solar Split needs one meter that measures a single home's own use, plus a way to read the whole site: total consumption or grid import and export, and solar production. The other home's use is the site total minus the metered home. Without a dwelling meter the split cannot be calculated. The meter must be one of the supported models listed on the Equipment page; unsupported meters cannot be read by the hub. See the equipment page.
My meter isn't listed
Tell us at support@solar-split.com which meter you have and we will consider it. Until it is on the supported list, the hub cannot read it and the split cannot be calculated from it.
Can you install it?
We do not install meters or hubs. The hub plugs into a power point. Fitting a meter to a circuit may need a licensed electrician, so use one for anything inside the switchboard. Meter readings are for information only and do not replace the retailer's meter.
Do I need an electrician?
No. The hub plugs into a power point and joins your Wi-Fi or a network cable. Adding a clamp meter to a circuit does need a licensed electrician.
What does the statement show?
A monthly PDF with each home's share, the rates used, and how solar and battery energy were shared. It is a statement of a calculation, not a bill.
How do I cancel?
Cancel any time from your account. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
